Phil Baramore gives Treasure Hunter Chambers Bridge Tour

Historical Treasure Hunt

Will you strike it rich?

The miners who went searching for gold in the mountains near Cottage Grove didn't know exactly where the gold was located, they had to search for clues that would hopefully lead them to striking it rich.  Now you can enjoy the excitement of hunting down your own clues and learn about the area's wonderful history.  You might even strike it rich!

The Historical Treasure Hunt will take you around town as you go from checkpoint to checkpoint to find clues to answer questions about Cottage Grove's history.  After answering each question correctly you will collect a stamp from the many businesses and volunteers at, or near, each checkpoint.  Once you answer all the questions and collect all the stamps, turn in your map at the Treasure Hunt registration table or Bohemia City Hall (aka BMD Info Booth), both located in Coiner Park, by 6:00 p.m. to be eligible for that day's drawing for a $100 prize (you do not have to be present to win).

Each map also has a bonus section of four additional questions.  All maps, from both days, with the bonus section filled out with the correct answers and corresponding stamps will be entered into a bonus drawing, held Saturday evening, for a bonus $100 prize.

Pro Tip: The Time Traveling Train is a great way to get to many of the checkpoints.  Check out the Train's page for a map of train stops and train schedule.

Rules

  • Pick up & return completed maps to the Treasure Hunt registration table or the Bohemia City Hall (aka BMD Info Booth - across from the Gazebo).

  • Prizes: $100 prize Friday, $100 prize Saturday, $100 bonus prize on Saturday.

  • Winners will be determined by a random drawing from maps returned on time the day of the drawing.

  • Stamps from bonus questions must be obtained during train hours while the checkpoints are staffed.

  • All hunters who complete the bonus section will be entered into an additional $100 cash drawing to be held Saturday.

  • Friay & Saturday Main Stage MC, Buck, will draw a winner before the night's headliner band, between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.

  • Maps don't have to be completed in one day.

  • Hunters can play each day for the $100 daily cash prize, but only one map can be submitted each day.

  • Clues can be followed in any order using the train or personal modes of transport.  FYI: The hunt area is much smaller than California's Magic Kingdom.

  • Maps must be submitted no later than 6:00 p.m. the day of the drawing.  Checkpoints will be staffed until 5:00 p.m.

  • Answers must be filled in before checkpoint volunteers can stamp.  Volunteers can provide assistance for their location only.

  • The last train run leaves Bohemia City (Coiner Park) at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Don't get stranded on the route, be aware of the time, and don't miss the last train.
