Chip "Dr. Horsehair" Cohen

Chip Cohen has been fiddling for audiences across the United States since the 1970s. After studying classical violin as a youth in Maryland, he traveled to the Great Smokey Mountains, where he became immersed in bluegrass and old-time fiddling. He’s been fiddling ever since, playing everything from bluegrass to rock and roll to mariachi. He has performed with such artists as the Holy Modal Rounders, the Johnson Mountain Boys, Ferlin Huskey, and Michelle Shocked.

Since arriving in Oregon in 1984, Chip has been performing as a soloist on fiddle and classical guitar, teaching fiddle lessons and classes, and playing with several Northwest bands, notably the Klezmonauts and the Conjugal Visitors. His solo CD, “Horsehair”, was hailed by the Eugene Weekly as a “musical masterpiece”.
