Flight… the dream of mankind throughout recorded history became a reality in the 20th century. Oregonians established their place in the history books as this new form of transportation developed and that tradition of innovation continues today in the growing experimental aircraft industry.
In Oregon all facets of aviation – historic flights, famous men and women pilots and advances in technology – have been experienced. From fledgling flights and innovations in early design and construction to astronauts in space, Oregonians have pursued their dream of flight.
The Oregon Aviation Historical Society is based at Jim Wright Field here in Cottage Grove. The goal of the Oregon Aviation Historical Society is to collect, preserve and restore aviation artifacts for interpretive and educational display, to insure the preservation of Oregon’s rich aviation heritage for future generations.
Look up in the skies over Cottage Grove during Bohemia Mining Days on Friday and Saturday to see antique and classic aircraft flying around. For a closer look, head to the Oregon Aviation Museum where they will be on display. (The aviators will also provide a fly-over the BMD Grand Miner’s Parade on Saturday morning for parade goers enjoyment.)
Include a visit to this interesting museum as part of your “time traveling experience” during Bohemia Mining Days!
