Gold Panning & Mining Camp Display

in History, Kid Stuff

Be sure to visit the Bohemia Mine Owners Association display area in Coiner Park’s Bohemia City and chat with some present day miners. They offer free gold panning demonstrations and provide a replica of a miner’s log cabin. For a small fee you can pan for gold and take home your efforts as a special souvenir of BMD.

The Bohemia Mine Owners Association (BMOA) is one of Cottage Grove’s oldest organizations still in existence. According to BMOA members, the only formula for success is a combination of men and women with courage, the proper equipment for mining, financial resources, luck and hard work.

In 1903, several mine owners and operators conducting metal mining operations in the Bohemia Mining District established the mining association to support mining activities in within the district. The Bohemia Mining District is located 35 miles southeast of Cottage Grove in the Calapooya Mountain Range.  The District is approximately 25 square miles in size and contains ores rich in gold, silver, lead, copper, zinc, nickel, and iron.

If you wish to drive into the mining district, remember that there is a great deal of private property (patented mining claims) and valid mineral claims being worked.  Miners’ and property owners’ rights must be respected.

For additional information about BMOA and a complete history of the Bohemia Mining District visit their website.
