Bohemia Gold Mining Museum
The discovery of gold in the Cascade foothills east of Cottage Grove in 1863 soon transformed the small agricultural community into a gold mining boom town.
Located in Cottage Grove’s National Historic District, the Bohemia Gold Mining Museum is a living and expanding memorial to all miners and to the rich history of gold mining activities in the Bohemia Mining District.
The Museum’s collection of photographs, tools, rocks and other artifacts pays tribute to the area’s gold mining history. Colorful murals inside make for great backgrounds for photographs.
The Museum is dedicated to the memory of Guy Lebo, a long-time area miner with a passion to preserve the history of the Bohemia Mining District. He many of the artifacts in the museum’s collection were donated from his personal collection after he died.
The Museum is staffed by volunteers and more are always needed. If you are a history lover — and have a few hours a week to spare — give Museum Director Sara Smith a call at the number below.
