A costume contest has been a feature of Bohemia Mining Days since its inception. Dressing up for BMD in Victorian or western-wear creates a wonderful spirit throughout the community and reminds festival-goers of the fashions of a by-gone era.

Women’s clothes in particular were so restrictive it limited their activities and in many cases tightly laced corsets created internal and breathing problems for them. No wonder they took to the streets to demand the right to vote and to wear more practical clothing than what the Victorian-era societal norms dictated at the time!

Dress Up Day: The BMD Board has proclaimed Saturday as the Festival's "Dress Up Day!" Come in a costumeto the Grand Miner's Parade in the morning and hang out at Bohemia City in Coiner Park to compete for FIFTY BUCKS!!! The contest begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Gazebo.

Winning Tips: Costume Contest Master of Ceremonies Keith Kessler returns to host this year's event. He asks each competitor to introduce himself or herself and explain why he or she should win the contest. Planning ahead to have a "stage name and backstory" to compliment your costume will enhance your chances of taking home the $50 cash prize.

Costume Categories: Man, Woman, Child and Family with a cash prize for each winner.

Where: Coiner Park Main Stage

When: Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Entry Fee: None

Prizes: A $50 prize will be awarded to the winner of each category.

Our thanks to this year’s Costume Contest Judges:
