Emerald People’s Utility District is one of the six public utility districts in Oregon. It is a unique utility with a unique history. Emerald was formed by a vote of the people in 1978. Another election in 1981 gave authorization to sell up to $72.5 million in revenue bonds to purchase the electrical system from the private power company Pacific Power and Light, that served the territory. Since 1983, when EPUD began serving customers EPUD board members and staff consider each customer as an owner and seek to include them as much as possible in the operation of their utility. So, it is not just the name that makes EPUD a “people’s” utility, but its deep roots with the people in the communities it serves. EPUD board members are proud to be a sponsor of the 2011 Bohemia Mining Days Festival and invite you to Coiner Park on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a complimentary ice cream cone -- a popular and long-standing BMD tradition.
